So, instead we decided to take the boys and the girlie and venture out anyhow. Justin did some research and found some day use areas in the mountains that we could have a picnic, do some hiking, and play outdoors. We took the boys bikes and headed out.
On our way out of town we stopped in northern Carefree for some Horseback Riding (Mule Riding really). There is this little place that does Mule Rides for free, if you tip your escort, for the kids. So, we let the boys put on some helmets and saddle up. They loved it! Brynn got to sit on the horse but not really ride. She seemed satisfied with that! The weather was overcast making it not so hot, but just a little muggy.
We then made the drive to Prescott and settled into a Day Use area for $5 to have some lunch and play outside. One of the boys first lines of business...dropping trough! You can see from the picture just how cute little boy buns can be!
We went on a trail hike, which seemed to kick Justin and mine's booty while the kids did just fine! :) Fortunately they weren't interested in going the distance.
After hiking and eating lunch we decided to get back in the van and go to Lynx Lake. You can't swim in the water but it was nice to be near water and to hike down to the bank. We ate dinner there. Justin grilled our shish kabobs (which of course I managed to over marinate) but it was edible. We let the boys put their swim suits on and just walk along the water at the bank to cool off and get a little wet. There were boats you could rent for an hour and if we go up next time we'd like to be able to do that!
The kids had a blast and we were of course totally exhausted. We grabbed some ice cream and headed home in order to make it home by 9:00 or so. It was a great day!
