Homeschooling

I wanted a place to post some important resources for homeschooling. I am by no means a pro, since mine are little and we are just starting. But, I've come across many helpful resources and curriculum I think everyone should check out.

coahbuttonFirstly, Letter of the Week
by Confessions of a Homeschooler. She has some other amazing kits you can also buy/download. Her stuff is top notch and very easy to use. I plan to use it with my little ones to keep them busy while the older one starts K/1.

All About Spelling.
We've decided to use this as well as their Kindergarten All About Reading program.  They are phonics based program that truly teaches a child how to read the sounds and follow the rules of the English Language.

AAR - Symptoms of Dyslexia Checklist

Tapestry of Grace. We are doing year 1 this year and possibly next year depending on how much time we can spend on the subjects.  I'm in no hurry because the main priority is reading, writing, spelling and math.

Beyond that, everything is a bonus!

This method is a classical, you can do more reading on that here.  I highly recommend looking through this site to understand the classical method.  Very reading orientated, literature, hands one, and bible based. Sounds perfect.

Right Start Mathemmatics starts at the very beginning using hands on manipulatives and basic reasoning to understand math.  I spoke with them at the Convention and I'm super excited to start this with Cole!

God's Design Science by Answers in Gensis

Curriculum summary

The God’s Design series is a highly regarded, complete science curriculum for grades 1 through 8. Covers life science, earth science, physical science, and chemistry & ecology. In the award-winning, full-color student curriculum the lessons are short, easy to teach, and take a hands-on approach using ordinary household items for experiments and activities. But easy does not mean lacking in substance; God’s Design textbooks and the all-new teacher supplements and CDs are comprehensive. Most important, God’s Design authors Debbie and Richard Lawrence approach science from a biblical worldview, emphasizing God’s handiwork in the world around us and showing how real science supports biblical authority and the Genesis account of creation. (Flexible order; use 1–3 lessons per week.)

As an awesome side note we picked this and a couple of other DVD's up at the convention for FREE with an Answers subscription. I think they are AWESOME!!
