Family Worship Night

Recently Justin and I discussed the importance of taking at least one night a week and dedicating that night to "Family Worship". We then talked about what that is supposed to look like and what we need/want to be teaching the kids concerning Jesus, family, and life. It seemed appropriate for now that we focus on what the kids were already needing to learn for Awana's and not add more material to their weekly schedule. Cole's Awana lessons are little advanced for the little boys but with a few tweaks are perfect for everyone. We also decided Justin would take the reins on this one because I spend the rest of the week doing the teaching and imparting of God's Word either because he is out of town or because it is during the day.

I was very excited to see the kids become used to taking the time to play games, relate, discuss, listen, and learn about God and all the things this life offers them. So, we started a few weeks ago. We sing a few songs, do some lessons on the board while playing a game (the hit so far is hangman), memorize some scripture (although Cole is the best memorizer so far), color and/or make crafts related to the lesson, read books, etc.

We downloaded some great music from Amazon to play during the week then sing with the kids: "Seeds Family Worship Series".
The Awana material has some printable lessons and coloring pages, etc. that can be found online on this great blog.
As we go we will continue to add to our library of material but so far I'm just glad we've committed to doing it and actually gotten a chance to follow through. The kids are so wonderful about it.
